Hi, my name is Lillian but everyone just calls me Lil. I’m an artist, organic gardener & plant junkie. I live in north central Illinois in a little house on the edge of the woods with my husband and two of my four grown children. In my spare time you can find me outside playing in the garden or taking lots of pictures of my flowers or the local wildlife for my blogs~ and for eight wonderful years I had my dream job of running the garden center at Blain’s Farm and Fleet...

Quietly Falling

Our second snowfall of the year.

I’m not a huge fan of snow, but I’d like to see some more. It’s been a really dry winter.

New Faces in the Herd

Come and meet 6 new faces at Lil’s Garden!
They’re all ready for your own stick and a great adventure!

Honey Bee

This is an updated version of the old Honey Bee. Sometimes a fabric for a favorite horse will become discontinued so I’ll let the listing slide until I find a new fabric. This one just grabbed me!

Josie

A Hot Pink Zebra? Why not?  She’s so bright and vibrant!  I actually had this one planned for last fall but it got put on the back burner for our move.

Kiwi

I love the fabric on this one. It reminds me of feathers. I had quite a few requests for green horses last year so I just had to oblige!

Fergus mac Róich

Another green with a really fun pattern! Very earthy!

Eugene

I chose a light weight denim for this one. I think he turned out pretty well and he’ll be a little more durable than the cotton prints.

Brownie

The Chestnut / Sorrel is another revamp. His old fabric is being discontinued so I found this suitable replacement fabric that I think looks a lot better.

Icy Breakfast

The chickadee~ unfazed by a recent ice storm ~ is at the top of the list of my favorite birds.

have you ever been cussed out by a chickadee? It’s very hard to be offended!

Sign of a plant hoarder?

Most people, when they move to a new house, take with them their furniture, china and other household possessions. I made sure all my favorite plants came with me.

An assortment of trees, shrubs and perennials, waiting for spring and a spot in a new flowerbed.

Dinner with Friends

A little thistle, a little sunflower seed and Voila!

Early Morning Acrobatics

This is what I saw when I opened my curtains this morning…
Apparently Squirrels can climb shepard hooks.  Silly me for thinking they couldn’t!

Come Sit With Me by the Fire and I’ll Tell You a Story….

Lots of changes happening at Lil’s Garden these last two months. We’ve moved to a new house, in a new town and adjusting to a new job while wrapping up the old life and filling Christmas orders at the same time. Very exhausting I’ll tell you, but we are adapting.
These changes have been in the planning for a long time and we’ve finally been able to realize them. We are very happy with our new place and I’m thrilled with my new, much bigger yard! And best of all, it’s a blank slate! I get to re-landscape EVERYTHING! I can’t wait till spring! I’ll be spending the winter scouring all my gardening and landscaping books for the perfect design ideas ( of course I have a few ideas already rolling around in my head).
There’s also room for a bigger greenhouse, yay!
The only drawback I see is that we are surrounded by woods loaded with wildlife~ including deer.
I now get to test all those deer resistant plants and anti deer theories in my new designs and hopefully, with the help of my two Labradors (who by the way have never seen a deer their entire sheltered lives!) I can keep the critter damage to a minimum. Wish me luck!

September snow?

I’m at the shop in Morris, it’s 50 degrees with strong winds. I look up and see this~ literally millions of tiny, glittering, white flakes racing through the sky above the roof. I don’t think it was snow, but I really don’t know what else it could have been…

Life’s Journey….

Life’s journey is not always clear, yet we continue down the path to see what’s around the bend…. L.Davis
