Bokeh

(BO-KEH) refers to the quality of the blurring of the out-of-focus portion of an image,

With a reflex (= mirror) lenses, it’s a doughnut bokeh: The blurring consists of “donuts,” round, circular patterns that ad an interesting twist to the overall image.

Granny’s Garden

My grandmother has the most beautiful shade garden. This was early March, so not every thing was in full swing yet. She lived in North West Oregon, Near Portland. I got the opportunity to visit it one last time.

Azalea
can you spot the kitty in the background?
The trees are soooo tall here

The Theme is moss here, actually it was everywhere, even on the street curbs.

there is rock hiding under all this moss

For all  my Midwestern friends, THIS is what a Rhododendron is supposed to look like!

Lady Bugs Like Raspberry Jelly Too!

This little gal woke up from hibernation in my kitchen today,
so I served her breakfast on a yogurt lid and set her outside on my back porch table.
She was really hungry.
By the way, this is the best way to catch lady bugs in your house…

Happy Surprise

This morning, I went outside to check if my columbines had bloomed yet so I could get a picture.
What I thought was my pink and white Grandma’s bonnet, which was what I had planted in that spot two years previous, was this….

Apparently my Magpie, a black and white columbine, has cross pollinated with Granny here and this is the happy result.  Sadly though, my grandma’s bonnet is nowhere to be found. I will have to start another one soon.
I wonder though, if I saved the seeds from this new cross, if it would come back true or revert back to the Magpie, like most hybrids do…. Hmmm.
I’ll let ya’ll know next year!

Happy May Day!

May 1st arrived bright and sunny!
Even if the temperatures only made it to 55 degrees
and it sprinkled later in the afternoon!
To celebrate,
here are a few more pictures of what’s blooming in my garden.

Bleeding heart, Dicentra spectabilis

The tart cherry is finally fully bloomed!
Even Daisy was enjoying the sun!

Apples and Cabbage (more signs of Spring in Starved Rock)

Commonly called mayapple~  Podophyllum peltatum,
cover parts of the wooded areas.
the Skunk Cabbage here~  Symplocarpus foetidus, is a rather foul smelling plant that love wet areas.
And the final sign that Spring has arrived in Starved Rock…..
